Fournos has been in a leading force in promoting new art/technology combinations. Since its foundation it has organized many seminars, lectures and video art productions as well as multimedia and digital performances by Greek artists.
Its highest expression was the International Art and Technology Festival Medi@terra (1998 - 1996).
Medi@terra aimed to create a platform for the exchange of ideas around digital art and more generally, in the field of digital culture. It involved artists, scientists and art centres all over they world in this enterprise, with special attention given to South-eastern Europe and the Mediterranean. It was project characterized by constant evolution, generating creative criticism in order to develop social cultural proposals and social content with regard to Digital Culture. It brought contemporary international trends in art and technology to Greece and provided international exposure for Greek artists. Designed as a festival combined with a complementary conference on the same themes, it has also hosted large scale activities.
